In terms of articles mentioning pesticides users, farmers and farmers’ organisations do not feature prominently in the FAO Code of Conduct. The provisions of the Code are nevertheless extremely important for farmers and farm workers because people applying pesticides are those most at risk. The Code calls upon pesticide users to contribute by giving high priority to training activities and to avoiding dangerous substances. But many farmers, especially small scale farmers and farm workers, are not in a position to express their rights. Farmers and farm workers’ organisations are therefore important stakeholders in efforts to reduce accidents and deaths caused by pesticides.
