Post-registration surveillance is a wide-ranging task: governments are asked to control the fate of pesticides and their health and environmental risks. This can only be done if there is enough data available on the marketing and use of pesticides as well as on pesticide residues in food and water and in human and other living beings. If data is not available, there is no basis for post-registration surveillance and this again can lead to the use of pesticides that should have been taken off the market or should have been regulated differently.
